The Setting
The fantasy setting evokes images and feelings of a time from antiquity, when heroes and villains would clash swords and invoke powerful magic as they embark upon an epic quest or journey. It hearkens back to the origins of history in stories that have become the mythology of entire cultures. Typical themes encompass powerful and terrifying magic, ancient and medieval lifestyles, valiant heroism in the face of insurmountable tyranny, and great or treacherous journeys into unusual and foreign lands. These key elements form the fundamental backbone of most fantasy stories.
Since the origins of history, fantasy has captured the imagination of the world and refused to let go. In the distant past, where many things were misunderstood or interpreted using the knowledge of the time, fantastical tales and stories offered a means to explain observations and experiences. Upon reflection, and with hindsight, these perceptions and stories may come across as quaint views of a less civilised and primitive society. But despite this, they have remained a relevant part of modernity, inspiring great tales and stories, as well as the pursuits of scholars, who revisit ancient interpretations with a modern lens hoping to learn about our history, values and beliefs.
The fantasy setting, perhaps more than any other, speaks to our primal nature to explore and experience the unusual and exciting. In a time where many of the world’s great mysteries have been unveiled or demystified through science and technology, this yearning to return to the wonder and mystery of the past continues to grow.

FEATURES
Extraordinary Creatures
Perhaps more than any other setting, fantasy allows you to embrace and explore interactions with unique and diverse types of creatures. There is tremendous creative freedom to provide creatures their own cultures, beliefs, abilities, and ethics. It is up to you whether you decide to stick with conventional interpretations and views from past works, or turn them into something different, reforging them to suit your adventures.
With no existing history to shape your perceptions, an Orc could just as easily be a terrifying warrior from a barbaric culture, or part of a society of diplomats, scholars, and merchants, who makes a living through trade instead of pillaging.
The creature creation rules in this book are extraordinarily flexible and colourful, offering unique ways for the GM and players to create an incredible array of creatures, which can be scaled to suit any adventure in a matter of minutes.
Other Realms
It is not uncommon for your adventures to breach the boundaries of your home world and send you to faraway places in search of glory and danger. Stepping through a portal and entering another realm is a great way for you to explore a new setting without changing the fabric of your adventure’s landscape.
The reasons for travelling to another realm can be anything. Perhaps it is the only place you may find a unique creature, a vital artefact is said to have been lost there, or to rescue an ally who has been captured. The thrill and terror of travelling to a utopian paradise or a hellish landscape is sure to leave a memorable impression.
This book provides you with the means to seek out portals to other realms. Each realm has a particular theme that provides an insight into its general feel and mood. Additionally, each realm has unique properties that affects the creatures within it. This could be anything from granting you magical powers to preventing you from lying, adding fantastic narrative opportunities for the players and GM to explore. There are a dozen realms for you to explore immediately, or simply use them a starting point for creating your own.

Powerful Spells
Fantasy adventures usually encompass some form of magic, making it a core element of the genre. This can take the form of minor effects that are subtle and indistinguishable, to terrifying displays of power and force as you manipulate the surrounding energy and bend it to your will.
This book represents magic in the form of spells, which you cast to produce a desired effect. For those less interested in magic, there are other more subtle abilities that you can use, which produce magic-like effects without specifically being tied to spellcasting.
Additionally, there are no predefined descriptions as to how you produce your magic, giving you complete control to invent the representations of your spells and powers. While a spell may disorient a creature, how the effects come about are up to your description.
Magical Equipment
Lost deep within a dark cave or dungeon, protected by ancient and fierce guardians, lies untold treasure and riches. Perhaps along your journey you may find a decrepit tower haunted by the long dead servants of a powerful wizard charged with guarding a mystical artefact of legendary power.
Few things are as exciting as finding an ancient magical artefact spoken about in legends. This book will provide you with ways to invent unique and characterful magical equipment using a simple template system.
But be careful, as not all magical artefacts are benevolent. Some can be malevolent in nature, bestowing a variety of nefarious curses to those who seek the extraordinary power they provide.
