The Setting
This setting revolves around the classic types of stories and adventures that originated at the turn of the 20th century. They were printed on cheap “pulp” paper and primarily focused on escapist fiction or general entertainment for mass publication to large audiences.
Even though some details are dated because of social, technological, and historical developments, the stories found in the pulp era are still very entertaining to explore, offering action-packed adventure and excitement.
Pulp fiction is a term used to describe a very large range of settings and creative styles. Famously, it is identified by larger-than-life heroes, the femme fatale, exotic locations, strange lands, and eccentric villains, which all stalked the pages of pulp magazines in one shape or form.
This book will focus on some of the most popular and commonly used settings and themes, which include: Aliens and Extra Terrestrials; Artefact and Treasure Hunting; Crime and Gangsters; Detective Stories; Occult, Horror and the Paranormal; and World War I & II.

Each of these sub-genres can be thematically linked or combined in some way to explore a unique fusion of the settings. For example, aliens can be introduced into a World War setting as foo fighters who would observe and harass pilots, or as a source for plundering and reverse engineering highly advanced technology in an effort to win the war.
Alternatively, treasure hunting can introduce elements of horror and the paranormal to represent guardians or protectors of sacred artefacts and locations, or it could fuel the drama in a detective adventure, where the protagonists are in search of cursed or stolen treasures from wealthy benefactors.

FEATURES
Treasure Hunting
Nothing reflects pulp more than harrowing stories of bold adventurers travelling into the deep, dark corners of the world in search of fame, glory, wealth, and legends. The insatiable thirst for knowledge can be one of many powerful motivators for characters on a quest for mysterious or alien artefacts and relics.
Some seek to find these treasures for more academic reasons; as a means to preserve, study, and exhibit them, or to debunk old legends as nothing more than myths. But others may try to find them for more malevolent purposes, as ancient relics are known to grant unimaginable power, which in the right (or wrong) hands can be world altering.
This book will provide the GM with incredible relics they can build adventures around and for their players to either find, steal, protect, or conceal, as well as a suite of features and specialty equipment to help you explore the very corners of your world.
Aliens & Extra Terrestrials
As probably one of the most fascinating, frightening, hotly debated, and contentious topics of our time, aliens have found a home in the pulp genre as a way for many to imagine beyond our terrestrial borders and into the wider galaxy.

Perhaps you (or they) are seeking to infiltrate society to learn more about different cultures, study biology and neurochemistry, find true love, broker peace and prosperity, or plot conquest.

Alternatively, you could be part of a clandestine organisation, such as the Men in Black, trying to suppress knowledge of aliens and preventing a public panic, or for other nefarious and mysterious reasons.

This book will provide you with ways to face off against aliens, use their advanced weaponry and spacecraft, or even be one of them. There are countless adventures that can be told about aliens.

Crime & Gangsters
Glorified criminals, gangsters, mobsters and the mafia are synonymous with the pulp genre. While they usually play the role of the antagonists, it is possible that you may choose to work for the wrong side of the law and become one of the “bad guys” yourself.
Car chases, shoot outs and turf wars are all possible as you fight, drink and blackmail your way through the criminal underworld. Become part of a massive crime syndicate as you work your way to the top, beat up those who stand in the way of the organisation as hired muscle, or serve as a specialist driver who always ensures the package gets from point A to B.
Detective Stories
Where there is crime and villainy, there are those who stand to uphold good and decency in the world. If you have always wanted to be a hard-headed, crime-fighting, super sleuth, you’ve come to the right place. Tap into your network of contacts, or apply pressure to snitches and other street scum with your fearsome interrogation abilities.
This book provides you with an impressive array of ways to personalise your detectives and inspectors be it through violence and coercion, exceptional investigation and attention to detail, or smooth talking and sharp wits. There are no wrong ways to fight crime.

World War I & II
Wrought from a time when the world was experiencing some of the most tragic and horrific aspects of existence, this subject has created many eternal heroes and villains. It has strong ties with the alien, horror, and paranormal as the search for a powerful, ancient, or even unnatural edge in battle can mean the difference between absolute victory and crushing defeat.
This book will provide you the tools to create exciting heroes and battle leaders who can fight on the front lines with their fellow comrades – either on foot or using devastating instruments of war – or serve as clandestine operatives, taking on the most dangerous and deadly missions behind enemy lines, or other dark places of the world. If combat isn’t your cup of tea, perhaps consider becoming a scientist or surgeon and help out with your incredible intellect instead.
Occult & Paranormal
Ghosts, unusual and strange experiences, extrasensory abilities, and facing ghoulish entities are all classic pulp tropes.
This book provides you with ways to become imbued with powerful paranormal abilities that can control the feelings of others, heal creatures, move things with your mind, or sow destruction and terror. Perhaps your role is to bring safety to the world by hunting down and destroying the dark and disturbed entities haunting the helpless.
Will you give in and embrace your new found abilities, or hide them in shame, fearing ostracism and becoming a pariah? Maybe it’s a little of both.
